Garrison Middle School Student Going to Space Camp
Academics, achievement, and attendance go hand in hand at Garrison Middle School. All of the students work hard towards their goals. So it was definitely hard when it came time for me, 8th grade Science teacher, Mrs. Tameshia Farley, to select one of my students for a scholarship (Right Stuff Award) that I earned at Honeywell Space Camp in Alabama during the summer of 2007.
Keonte’ Smith, 8th grader at Garrison Middle School, has maintained a 90 grade point average, displayed great leadership skills, maintained perfect attendance, participated on the National Academic League team, and is prepared for school in his uniform everyday. All of these attributes contributed to Keonte’ being selected as the obvious contender for this outstanding award. Keonte’ Smith works diligently to ensure that he accomplishes his goal of one day in his adult life of becoming a car engineer. My overall statement when asked about this aspiring student: “Keonte’ loves science, and he is so enthusiastic and motivated when it comes to completing his school work.” I worked hard last summer at Space Camp to gain this award for one of my students for this school year, and it is understandable that Keonte’ has received this challenging opportunity. His other teachers also attested to the academic competency of Keonte to receive this wonderful award. Keonte’ Smith also participated in Garrison Middle School’s Science Fair in March 2008; he is extremely interested in scientific phenomena. This student will be attending Edmondson-Westside High School where intends to commence his studies to aspire to become an engineer when he grows up
Keonte’ will be traveling to Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) from May 23 -30, 2008. The “Right Stuff Award” that Keonte’ Smith is receiving will include round-trip airfare, full tuition to Space Academy, and room and board. . Keonte’ stated, “This space trip is going to be both fun and educational. Also, it is a once in a lifetime chance.”
Thanks to Honeywell and the USSCR who have sponsored the Right Stuff Award.
